Pressure explained

Understanding ATA in a hyperbaric chamber

ATA stands for Atmospheres Absolute - the unit of pressure inside the chamber. At 1.0 ATA you're at sea-level air pressure. At 2.0 ATA the chamber is pressurized to double sea level - the upper end of the professional hard-shell range.

PressureTypeBest forChamber
1.0 ATA Sea-level air Baseline -
1.3–1.4 ATA Mild HBOT Daily wellness Soft-shell (S1)
1.5 ATA Mid-tier HBOT Athletic recovery Soft or hard
1.8–2.0 ATA Professional hard-shell range Performance & recovery Hard-shell only

The L1, X, T2, and T4 reach up to 2.0 ATA - the upper end of the professional pressure range. The foldable S1 soft-shell runs 1.3–1.5 ATA. More in our ATA pressure guide and hard-shell vs soft-shell pages.

Engineering & certification

Hyperbaric chamber engineering and certification

01

150% Pressure Tested

Every hard-shell is built in an ASME-certified factory and pressure-tested to 150% of its rated pressure before it ships, well above the 2.0 ATA operating limit.

02

304 Stainless Steel

SUS304 pressure-vessel steel. 20–30+ year lifespan.

03

Quadruple-Redundant Safety

Four pressure-relief valves (one manual, two automatic, one emergency), a relief valve caps pressure mechanically whatever the controls do. Plus SIEMENS controls, dual pressure gauges, and dual emergency stops.

04

BIBS Oxygen Delivery

Air-pressurized chamber with separate oxygen delivery helps reduce oxygen-enrichment risk vs oxygen-filled designs.

05

ISO 13485 Manufacturing

Built in an ISO 13485 facility. Certified by CE.

06

Continuous Monitoring

Real-time pressure, temperature, humidity, PM2.5.

Referenced standards: ASME PVHO-1 · ISO 13485:2016 · UHMS HBOT indications · FDA: HBOT, get the facts · See also safety & standards and how we build.

FDA-cleared vs wellness use

In the US, hyperbaric chambers are regulated by the FDA as Class II medical devices, cleared (not "approved") through the 510(k) pathway. Clearance is use-specific: hyperbaric oxygen therapy for conditions such as decompression sickness or non-healing diabetic wounds is delivered in a supervised clinic with a prescription, and the UHMS publishes the recognized indications. Home and wellness sessions sit outside that medical use. When you compare any chamber for sale, ask what it was cleared for and which standards its vessel was built to. Read the FDA's consumer guidance, our FDA-cleared indications guide, and our hyperbaric chamber safety page.

New vs used

New vs used hyperbaric chambers

A used hyperbaric chamber for sale lists for less, but the discount shrinks once the missing warranty, unknown wear, and separate freight are priced in. Superhuman sells new chambers only, and here is what that buys you.

What owners say on Google

5.0 from 7 Google reviews

Spent almost a year comparing chambers before buying the X. The price made me slow down and ask a lot of questions, and I got real answers without a sales pitch. Delivery was on schedule and the seated setup fits the only room we had available.

We run a small recovery studio and added two chambers in January. From a business standpoint: booked out most weekends within six weeks, and they've needed zero maintenance beyond filter checks. The team at Superhuman handled freight, gave us a proper onboarding call for staff, and answered every operational question since, usually same day.

I've tried the T2 chamber in a few wellness centers, it was great, I could actually go to a nearby facility to test it. Got my chamber running now for 1 week, and it has been fantastic. Strongly suggest to work with Superhuman for professional and reliable service and installation.

FAQ

Hyperbaric chambers for sale: FAQ

How much does a hyperbaric chamber cost?

A hyperbaric chamber costs about $5,000 to $200,000+ across the market (full breakdown in our hyperbaric chamber cost guide). Our range runs from $15,000 for the foldable soft-shell S1 to $169,000 for the multi-person T4. Single-person hard-shell starts at $49,900 (the lying-down L1) and $79,900 (the seated X); two-person from $99,900 (T2). Legacy systems from competing manufacturers run $200,000–$300,000.

Can you buy a hyperbaric chamber?

Yes. Hyperbaric chambers are legal to buy in the US for both personal and commercial use.

Can I finance a hyperbaric chamber?

Yes. Monthly payment options are available instead of paying upfront; terms depend on your profile and location. Eligible US businesses may also use Section 179 expensing. See our hyperbaric chamber financing guide for the payment math.

Should I buy a new or used hyperbaric chamber?

A used hyperbaric chamber lists for less, but warranties rarely transfer, wear on seals and valves is invisible, and freight and inspection are extra. Superhuman sells new chambers only, each pressure-tested and warrantied. Our new vs used guide has real used-market prices and a checklist.

Is it worth buying a hyperbaric chamber?

For frequent users, ownership can lower the cost per session compared with paying per visit at a clinic. For operators, the economics depend on pricing, utilization, staffing, and location. See the ownership economics above.

Do I need a prescription for a hyperbaric chamber?

No prescription is required for personal wellness use in most US states. Consult a licensed physician for any diagnosed medical condition.

What pressure (ATA) is best for me?

See the ATA scale above. The soft-shell S1 reaches 1.3–1.5 ATA; every hard-shell (L1, X, T2, T4) reaches up to 2.0 ATA - the upper end of the professional pressure range.

Soft-shell vs hard-shell - which should I buy?

Soft-shell (S1) suits mild home wellness at 1.3–1.5 ATA. Hard-shell reaches up to 2.0 ATA and lasts decades. Four of our five models are hard-shell.

How long do hyperbaric chambers last?

Soft-shell chambers last 5–10 years. Superhuman 304 stainless steel chambers last 20–30+ years.

What are the downsides and risks of HBOT?

The most common side effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy are ear and sinus pressure during pressurization; less common ones include temporary vision changes and fatigue. HBOT is not suitable for everyone, for example with an untreated pneumothorax. Fire safety rules apply in any pressurized chamber. See our hyperbaric chamber safety guide and side effects and contraindications.

This information is not medical advice. Consult a licensed physician before starting HBOT, especially with a diagnosed condition, pregnancy, or recent ear or lung problems.

How long does a session last?

A typical HBOT session runs 60–90 minutes, usually 3–5 times per week.

Monoplace vs multiplace - what is the difference?

Monoplace seats a single user (S1, L1, X). Multiplace seats multiple users at once (T2, T4).

What warranty comes with my chamber?

Every Superhuman chamber includes a 2-year parts warranty plus lifetime remote support.

Do you handle delivery and installation?

Yes. Every hard-shell chamber includes white-glove delivery, professional installation, and same-day team training.

What space and power do I need?

The X is 67 × 58.5 × 68.5 in, the T2 81.5 × 65 × 69 in, and the T4 90.5 × 65 × 69 in, each length × width × height. All run on standard AC 110V/240V power - no plumbing or special construction. Clearances, ceiling height, and floor loading depend on your room, so we confirm them in a pre-delivery site assessment included with every order. The X is 1.70 × 1.48 × 1.74 m, the T2 2.07 × 1.65 × 1.75 m, and the T4 2.30 × 1.65 × 1.75 m, each length × width × height. All run on standard AC 110V/240V power - no plumbing or special construction. Clearances, ceiling height, and floor loading depend on your room, so we confirm them in a pre-delivery site assessment included with every order.
